Ramadan moon not sighted in J&K, 1st day of fasting on Sunday | KNO

Srinagar, Feb 28 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Grand Mufti, Nasir-ul-Islam Friday said that the cresent moon has not been sighted, thus, the first day of Ramadan will be on Sunday (March 02). Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Grand Mufti said that no witnesses or evidences were received from anywhere about the sighting of Ramadan moon today. “Therefore, the first day of fasting will be on Sunday,” he said. Earlier this month, he constituted a moon-sighting committee for J&K with Valley’s chief cleric and Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq as its member. This comes in the wake of a controversy over moon sighting last year, which split local Muslims over the commencement of Ramadan—(KNO)
